Mat d. and the Profane Saints to Release a FREE limited edition CD at March 14th performance in Sioux City - February 26, 2009

Sioux City Roots Rock band Mat d. and the Profane Saints will release a free, limited edition CD at their Sioux City March 14th performance at the Chesterfield. 100 copies of a new CD titled "B-Movie Queen" will handed out at no cost to the first 100 people at the show. Frontman Mathew deRiso says "We wanted to give something to all of the good folks that have supported us in the past few years. We decided that pressing a limited quantity of discs to hand out at the show would be a cool, sort of collectible idea that would feature some brand new music from a couple of new CDs we're working on right now. It's the best 'thank you' to our fans we could think of."
Mat d. and band have been busy recording two CDs slated for release 2009. The first album being a Profane Saints venture titled "Dirt Town City Limits" is nearly complete and will be released in Spring . "It's the best thing we've done so far" Mat says "The songs range from an early punk sound to straight forward rock n' roll all presented in our Americana/Roots style; We're really looking forward to it's release." As for the other CD, Mat will also release his third solo album "Plank Road Drag" in the Fall. "Plank Road Drag will expand on the sound of my last two solo discs with a much more upbeat, fuller acoustic sound featuring mandolin, banjo and slide guitar verses the stripped down voice and guitar approach. The idea is to release a few CDs that will target both of our audiences. One for fans of our amped up, electric sound and the other for acoustic/roots enthusiaists."
The band will hand out 100 tickets on March 14th that fans can redeem at the group's merch table once the band kicks off the show. 7 of the 100 tickets will also land a few lucky folks additional free merch. The free CDs are first come, first serve and will only be available at the March 14th performance. Local rockers Stealing Mercury will open the show at 9:30pm, with the Profane Saints taking the stage at 11pm.

Merciful 66 named Folk Rising's album of the year 2008 - January 20, 2009

We're proud to announce that Mat d. was awarded Folk Rising's Album of the Year 2008 for his solo CD "Merciful 66" Mat was fortunate enough to have earned this award in 2007 for the album "Gasoline Rattle" Two years in a row ain't bad! Much appreciation to Gary at Folk Rising for his enthusiasm and support of Americana and Folk music. THANK YOU FOLK RISING! Here's what they had to say - Folk Rising™ Music Productions, LLC (Folk Rising)'s 2008 Folk Album of the year is awarded to Mat D for his Merciful 66 album. Gary Kappenman, A&R for Folk Rising, stated "as I sit here listening to Mat’s Merciful 66 album for about the 20th time, I’m considering that reviewers of Mat’s first solo album, Gasoline Rattle, reminded them of a young Steve Earle. While I enjoy listening to Steve Earle’s work, I believe Mat’s new album goes significantly beyond Steve Earle’s work in both the striking imagery of his lyrics and the heartfelt soulfulness he brings to his vocals. If you like Steve Earle’s work, you’ll love Mat’s new Merciful 66 album!”

All hail the Hippie Boy! (A shameless plug for a hardworking man) - October 17, 2008

The Saints wish to thank Chris Radloff and his lovely wife for doing such a great job on the new promo photos. Chris runs Hippie Boy Design - a booming web design and photography company here in Sioux City. Not only did he break us into a truck yard on a Sunday afternoon in the rain for some shots with a classic white freightliner, he also captured what we feel are some damn cool photos of three guys with faces for radio and made us look as good as humanly possible- with the help of photo-shop of course. (The fourth and only exception was Jeff, who looked quite dapper in his clothes-pin tie and vest. Why the hell didn't we put him out in front???) And, even though he couldn't seem to get a smile out of Mat (who swears he was smiling the whole time) We'd like to direct you to his site in case anyone of our readers needs a professional or personal website and/or professional photography (and kick ass senior pics from what we're told) to give this long haired friend of ours a call. Visit Chris at www.HippieBoyDesign.com You'll be glad you did.

Drive Thru Romance scrapped, New album in the making and cleaning house. - September 10, 2008

'Drive Thru Romance' the long awaited follow up tp the 2006 LP "Small Town Burning..." will not see the light of day and has been scrapped. After rehearsing new, stronger material with the line-up featuring Kurt Mullins on guitar and newest member Bob Birch on Bass, the band has found it's stride and will soon begin work on a full length CD with the working title "Dirt Town City Limits" While some of the music intended for release on 'DTR' will be present on the new CD- all of the tracks from the ground up will be re-recorded and rearranged to reflect the band's evolving and grittier new Americana sound. It's more country, with punk, jazz and blues influences that we look forward to showcasing at the Chesterfield in Sioux City on October 25th.
We've also updated the tracks in the music section. A few live tracks have been added (and removed!) largely in part and thanks to our new friend Lee who was kind enough to send us a bootleg recording of our August 1 performance at the 29th Annual Sioux River Folk Fest. We've also updated the links section of our website as well.
Hope to see many of you at a live performance sometime soon!
