Mat d. and the Profane Saints: Music
Resurrection Cadillac
I wanted to write a song about the typical good/evil protagonist. Come Saturday night he's rambling...riding the road...looking for a girl. I used religious references because it seems to push the envelope when you're telling a story. What he's really looking for is redemption, but once he gets a taste of "glory" he has to keep revving things up every chance he gets- he has to resurrect that dark part of him...like a menacing engine, a big cadillac. Chasing that feeling...
I'll be going back to sinning on a Saturday night
to find a revelating woman that'll show me the light
get her big hips shaking put a gun in her hand
send her rolling down the highway back to Texas again
or I can throw her in the front of my Cadillac and slip her the keys
I need a hundred proof religion and a half a tank of cheap gasoline
I'll rock a '64 fleet down to Kalamazoo and find a holy rolling mamma that reminds me of you
I'm going to tow that little pony 'bout a mile down the track until the feeling of conviction leaves her flat on
her back then I'll lay my hands on the goods till the goods go sour
before I raise the motor back from the dead with a new kind of power
never mind the detour we don't need the headlights
all night trucking Daddy going to make everything alright
all you've got to do is profess to believe.
this honky rocket's running meaner than a diesel powered eighteen wheeler
If you've got the soul to revive I'll keep you satisfied
so raise your hands to heaven pretty mamma open wide
it's time to stop and let the devil ride
I'm going to roll on back up north to Chippewa
or ride that resurrection Cadillac to Wichita
I'll find an illustrated sister that'll turn me around with an all divine propensity for shaking it down
because a sinner needs the saving like a son of a bitch needs gin
so when I feel the spirit moving going to resurrect the motor again
