Mat d. and the Profane Saints: Music

Motel City

down that Motel City highway
she made me pay my free love dues
I passed the time by singing ballads in the shadows
to the faded apparations in my room

in that Motel City bus stop
lived a hardened beauty queen
she loved above the law of small town superstition
and I wonder if she ever thinks of me

I've seen the light go flashing by
in streaks of broken glass and mercury in the sky
to have to hold no worse for wear
a silver epitaph for those who've rambled here

past the Motel City Limits
I lived to die another day
on tattered bed sheets pressed with scorn and condemnation
soft enough to toss and turn the night away

I still remember what she told me
in that cold and darkened room
been twenty years since I stepped foot in Motel City
twenty years spent on the run from "I love you"

I've seen the light go flashing by
in streaks of broken glass and mercury in the sky
no have to hold no worse for wear
a silver epitaph for those who've rambled here
